Overview
A short 3D animated piece created for an open call supporting Russian political prisoners, organized by Animators Against War together with Memorial (an international human rights organization). The film is dedicated to Alexei Gorinov, a former municipal deputy and political prisoner in Russia, imprisoned for publicly opposing Russia’s criminal war against Ukraine.
The project includes a realism-focused prison environment and a stylized character element: Gorinov’s dog, who died while waiting for his return, reimagined here as a softly glowing presence outside the cell door. The corridor and cell exterior form a bleak prison passage, where worn surfaces and utilitarian materials define the space across shots. Light from Gorinov’s cell breaks through the corridor darkness, remaining stronger than it.

Door Detail and Texture Work
Close-ups focus on the cell door and hardware. Rust, chipped paint, damp stains, traces of black mold, and layered grime define the surface, giving the door a heavy, neglected presence.
Lighting Pass
The corridor is built as a dark, monotonous prison space, defined by repetition and worn surfaces that compress the frame.
Gorinov’s Dog
The animation introduces the figure of Gorinov’s dog, who passed away before he could return home. She appears outside the prison cell as a quiet, luminous presence, waiting for his release.
